Donald Trump — the Symptom of a Far Greater Disease

Last night I had a brain spasm and waded into the US political debate… I did it extremely unconsciously, I’m not even going to repeat the words here as they were, at best, childish. But what they did do was strike a deep chord.

250 plus responses later (most of which I haven’t even been able to read) and I’m understanding why I posted it. Donald Trump terrifies me. Not Donald Trump himself, but what Donald Trump represents — small minded bigotry — blaming everyone and everything else for the problems we face.

At a time when I believe the most important task facing humanity is to unite behind the core issue of our time — Ecosystem Collapse/Climate Change, Donald Trump is driving a wedge through the centre of us like never before has existed. We’ve become two seperate sides screaming at each other with no common ground in between.

This isn’t all Donald Trump’s fault, he’s merely a symptom of a far greater disease. But when you have cancer you still have to cut it out, at the same time as addressing the far more complex underlying conditions that caused it to begin with.

Joe Biden isn’t a solution, that much feels pretty clear. But at least he’d bring some calm back to the discussion so we could begin talking about what’s really required. If we’re even willing to have that…
